Maine veterans who meet certain age, war-period, or disability requirements can exempt part of their property's value from tax (36 M.R.S. § 653).
Who qualifies. You must be a Maine resident, and either (a) you served during a federally recognized war period or received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and you're 62 or older or receive a total disability pension; or (b) you receive a service-connected total disability pension from the U.S. Government.
Confidential. This application asks for your Service Number or Social Security Number, which is statutorily confidential. It's encrypted and access-restricted to the assessor's office.
Deadline. April 1.
